About
Mongo Deco (‘Mongo’ from the New York slang for “any discarded object that is retrieved”) is the name of our design practice and the aesthetic behind it. Everything we use to build, renovate, or furnish a home has been reused in some way – salvaged on its way to the landfill, reclaimed from demolition, re-purposed from onsite, purchased secondhand, found on the side of the road, and so on. (See our Guide to Terms.) Where reuse is impossible or impractical, we combine the most eco-friendly, locally-sourced materials with energy-saving technologies to arrive at a balance between ecology and economy.
We are Timothy and Andrea, two self-taught designers and DIY home renovators from Michigan, and our steadily growing network of Partners, which includes the following trusted Ann Arbor contractors:
- Carl Graulich Contracting: Windows/Doors/General:
- HadleyCraft LLC (Matt Hadley): Cabinetry/Flooring/General:
- Silver Maple Remodeling (Mike Kozura): Drywall/Painting/General:
